The developing world.
My favorite line from today's appointment with the development specialist:
"Margaret does well on tasks of her own choosing."
Ha! Does one usually hear terms of economics in these appointments? I'm speaking, of course, of "laissez-faire," the doctrine that opposes government interference beyond a minimum. It also describes Margaret's response to developmental assessments. My baby, the Libertarian...
Josephine, of course, did beautifully on all sorts of tasks: solving puzzles, block-stacking, identifying objects, drawing shapes. First she listens, then she studies the tasks at hand, and then she does it. And if she doesn't get it right, she persists. Go Feeny-weeny! It did not escape notice however that she has nervous habits.
Nervous habits! At age 2!

I wonder if she took any points off for the bite-counter-bite incident over the toys. Hopefully it just added color and depth to the characters...
Wow, that exactly describes my boys: one does well what HE wants to do (god forbid anyone tell him to do it, though!), and the other is nervous nervous!
Believe me, it makes for interesting times! Preschool is lots of fun with someone who doesn't want to do what they're told. Whenever it's time to color, my N-man flips the page over and will only color the back!
Constantly thinking up new impish delights to surprise the parents with is enough to make any 2-year-old a nervous wreak. Give that toddler a spa visit!
Did they get any extra credit for their various activities? Or do they have to perfect climbing onto the roof first? Cause you KNOW that is coming soon.
